SYNOPSIS<\/p>\n
wall [-n] [-t timeout] [message | file]<\/p>\n
DESCRIPTION<\/p>\n
wall displays a message, or the contents of a file, or otherwise its
\nstandard input, on the terminals of all currently logged in users.
\nThe command will wrap lines that are longer than 79 characters.
\nShort lines are whitespace padded to have 79 characters.\u00a0 The command
\nwill always put a carriage return and new line at the end of each
\nline.<\/p>\n
Only the superuser can write on the terminals of users who have
\nchosen to deny messages or are using a program which automatically
\ndenies messages.<\/p>\n
Reading from a file is refused when the invoker is not superuser and
\nthe program is suid or sgid.<\/p>\n
OPTIONS<\/p>\n
-n, –nobanner
\nSuppress the banner.<\/p>\n
-t, –timeout timeout
\nAbandon the write attempt to the terminals after timeout
\nseconds.\u00a0 This timeout must be a positive integer.\u00a0 The
\ndefault value is 300 seconds, which is a legacy from the time
\nwhen people ran terminals over modem lines.<\/p>\n
-V, –version
\nDisplay version information and exit.<\/p>\n
-h, –help
\nDisplay help text and exit.<\/p>\n
NOTES<\/p>\n
Some sessions, such as wdm, that have in the beginning of utmp(5)
\nut_type data a ‘:’ character will not get the message from wall.
\nThis is done to avoid write errors.<\/p>\n
